This week's 95bFM Jazz Show with Def Jim features six tracks by Free Jazz/Jazz-Funk/Blues guitarist James Blood Ulmer (or his bands) who died early last month at the age of 86, plus six more from a typically eclectic selection of other artists including Abdullah Ibrahim (aka Dollar Brand) - who also passed recently - and a brand new release from Ambrose Akinmusire & Mary Halvorson. Many thanks to texter Deon who was able to answer the question of how Mr Ulmer acquired his epithet 'Blood', which apparently originated in his being affectionately dubbed 'Youngblood' by other musicians in his early playing days.
